The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, By Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows - a Beautiful Book #GreatBookDeals #Guernsey

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows - so beautiful, you'll love it!

You know I love a great book and a great deal!
(And I get a wee something from every sale that goes through my links, so thank you so much! You're the best!)

Oh, I just watched the movie version of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, on Netflix, and it is just beautifully done - one of the best books-to-movies that I've ever seen - absolutely lovely, captivating, beautiful - I hope you love both the book and the movie - awww, so lovely!  Your Little Reading Pal, Ailsa! lol! xoxo!!

Oh, I can't tell you how much I loved this book, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, written by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. The beauty in this book is endless, and it deals with some horrific matters, since it is set in the Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands between England and France, during WWII.  To find the beauty in that horrible time is amazing, and this wee book was impossible to put down. It's written in letter style, between Juliet and her wonderful friends, so you feel like you are a part of the letters, like they are your own friends, and the people you meet through those letters are profoundly moving.  Really, I can't recommend this book highly enough.  I just loved it, and was so sad when I got up, this morning, and realized I didn't have any more of their letters to read! It's one of those books you wish would just go on and on, it's just that beautiful, and then when you are completely finished the book, read that last tiny bit about the authors, and, guaranteed, you will say, 'Ooooh', and hold the book to your heart.

I happened upon The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society at the library, last week, in the Staff Picks section, and I would never have found it if it hadn't been for that, so I wanted to be sure to share this with you, my lovely Reader : )   If you happen to have a book club, or you have some lovely friends you like to talk to about certain books, this is one for that circle, too.  It's not for the faint of heart, but it's the reality of the time, and I always take Remembrance Day and Veteran's Day so seriously, we are all so thankful for our Veterans, and this is a look into what happened to the people they were fighting for, and why it was so critical to win.  You'll find yourself shocked by some things, with a much greater understanding of what people went through during World War II, and at the same time, the love and friendship that kept everyone going through it all - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society is pure beauty, it's so perfect.

Let me know if you've read it, and what you thought, and if you get it and read it, let me know if you felt a whole new connection to a little area of the world rarely heard of - I just happened to see a section on the CBC Canadian News a couple of weeks ago, on the Red Cross delivery of  food, shoes, clothes and other supplies, to Guernsey, most likely toward the end of the war, and they were saying on the news that the people of Guernsey were so thankful for the care packages they got from Canada through the Red Cross, especially the food and the shoes, but if I hadn't seen that bit on the news, I don't think I would have recognized the name 'Guernsey' the same way, and may not have picked up the book, so I am so happy the events happened in that order, and this beautiful book came into my life!

Here is a lovely line from the book that you will love, especially if you are a Reader, such as myself!
: )

"Perhaps there is some secret sort of homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers."

Does that give you a wee chill??  Wait 'til you read the book! You'll love it, I'm sure : )

Happy Reading!  Ailsa xoxo
