This is a great way to quickly see the stages involved in Building Your Own House. The Written Timelines are all above the pictures of each Stage, and you can click on each box to see whatever Building Stage you are particularly interested in ... I love all the pictures, but I really love the pictures at the Drywall and Insulation Stage -- I thought that was so cool the way the Peak in the Great Room came together! We came in $40,000. under budget on this house, which was fantastic. I can't urge you enough to be extra nice when you are looking for your best deals, and go directly to the source when you are buying big ticket items, like windows and doors, lumber, cement...really, tell them you are the Builder, and try to get the Builders' Pricing.

This is a great way for you to see what you can comfortably afford - I really think that's the key to being 'house happy' - make sure you can easily afford your new home, and the upkeep, or any renovations... it's better to look at the whole picture, well before you make any decisions, and make the right choice for you (not your realtor... you have to watch that they don't keep showing you homes that are far more than you really wanted to spend... but a Good Realtor will work with you, because they want you to be happy, too : )

Hey, you know what I was just thinking? Why can't we have ramps instead of stairs, especially leading from the garage into the house? In an apartment building, you can avoid stairs, almost entirely, if you want to, but hardly ever in a house... maybe the building codes can change with new, user-friendly ideas? A ramp would be so much easier as people get older, and sometimes it's hard to walk up the stairs, and for anyone who is in a wheelchair, or pushing a cart or stroller...
You would of course have to make it non-slip, and have really good railings, but, that's a given, too... hmmm... something to think about!
And, dammit, I see my pictures have disappeared from this page - very annoying - that happened when Blogger switched from http:// over to https://.... I'll need to go and get those pics for you! : )
But think about the ramp thing - maybe that could catch on! I would think about ramps for the interior of the house, too - why not, right? We can easily adapt and change, if we want to! And if it helps a whole lot of people : )
Aren't these gorgeous? And soo much easier to walk up, than stairs - anyone could do it - walk, wheel, be pushed... oh, I love it!
