The God Diet

If God Made It, You Can Eat It! lol! : ) THE Friendliest, Happiest Diet, Evah'!

Clearance Items: Up to 50% off Select Ghirardelli Chocolates. Thanks, God, for the delicious Chocolate! lol! Yum!

Okay, so I've thought of this for years and years, but sometimes I'm really struck by how incredible our Universe is, how amazingly intricate and phenomenal our world is, the sheer beauty and symmetry of nature....

Take these apples (please! haha! Jus' reminds me of that old 'Take my wife....please! lol!)

Anyway, when I slice the apples in half - or, in thirds, today, even easier! lol! But when I slice an apple in half, I am blown away by the design - a Grand Design,if you will... it's gorgeous, and I am soo blown away by seeds, and seed dispersal... (make me think of a man who really gets around - bah'hahahaha! Or seeds on a tree - whatevs... we're all just seeds, sprouted out! I looove that!

You, Me and an Apple Seed!

You, Me, and an Apple Tree!

We All Come From a Seed - You, Me, an Apple and a Tree!

Anyway, I've been singing that all morning - lol! Life in my head - haha!

I just took the Apple Crumble out the oven - smells amazing in here - yum! If I could just get everyone to give this little Apple Crumble a try, think how much happier and healthier our whole world would be!

So here's what makes me call it The God Diet - I really believe that if it grows naturally, it's good for you. It was designed for you to eat - and be healthy, soooo, why not work with what comes naturally, whenever and wherever you can, right?

Oatmeal is one of my favorite things - add it where you can, see if that will make you feel good - if you have any reaction, skip that, try something else, but generally speaking, Oatmeal and Grains are very good for you - there are really only a handful of people who can't manage grains, that seems like more of a media thing, right now - but if it works for you, Oatmeal is very Heart Healthy, great for 'cleaning out your system' - err... you know what I mean! lol! But Oatmeal will act like a little broom, sweeping out your system, cleaning it all up - is amazing! Thanks, God! I love it!

Yum, Thanks, God, for all the great veggies! This is my favorite #MacaroniSalad

You get soo excited, when you get a bite with a little macaroni, and a whole lot o' da Veggies!

Well,  have a ton o' delicious and easy to make recipes on my blog - and on my site, but I can't seem to access my website - so frustrating - it's live and online, over 1.7 million visits, but there's something that is blocking me from getting onto my site from this computer, for me to work on it, so, my blog is my focus, right now.... sooo.... hm, have to figure that out, fo' sho'!

Anyhoooo, you can scroll through all the pics on my Blog, find whatever delicious recipe you're looking for... you'll love them all, I love anything that's delicious and pretty easy and fast to make, AND, super-healthy! : )

Bottom line, try to minimize artificial ingredients, where you can (not to be nutty about it, some artificial ingredients are deeelicious! haha!), and try to add lots of yummy fruits and veggies, wherever you can - Yum! Thanks, God! Good Job!! : )

Yum, look what I just thought of having - was soo good!

Cucumbers and Taco Meat - Simple and Delicious!

So here's how I happened to think of this new flavor combo - years ago, at a Queen's Alumni Party in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, they had these most delicious little hors d'oeuvres (hor-derves, if you will - I have another li'l joke, but it just goes downhill fro here, sooo.... hopefully, you're already making that joke, in yer own head - haha!) (Did you know the literal French meaning of hors d'oeuvres is 'outside the work' - or, and this is all me, now - not the main course - or maybe it is?? haha! Whatevs, just say, Something Delicious, a lovely little bite of something good!

Anyway, they had a slice of Cucumber, a few drops of Hot Sauce, and a lovely fresh Shrimp - yum!

Taco Meat - yum!
It was soo good, so, tonight I happened to think of a new way I can freeze the extra Taco Meat, that I make all at once, I get the giant package of Ground Meat (mince, if you're British - lol!), cook it all in the big pot, with a ton of Taco Seasoning - 8 tablespoons, maybe? I dunno, I pour it in... spicy is yummy! lol!

So I was standing in the kitchen, my son had already added some Taco Meat to the left over Lasagna - which was delicious - I did that, last night - yum!

Yum! Taco Spaghetti! Try it, you'll love it!
So my son had already eaten, and normally I would just make a batch of Taco Spaghetti, or regular Tacos, but we were all out of cheddar cheese, lettuce, salsa, tomatoes (I'm still waiting for them to grow, sooo, they'll be ready in just a few short months, and I'll have to eat something else between now and then - haha!)

Anyway, I'm standing in the kitchen, trying to think of something to have with the Taco Meat, and thought of this - and it was sooo good - yum! Light, delicious, did I already say light? haha! So good!

I just heated up the Taco Meat, put that in the center of the plate, then sliced the cucumber to put around the meat - all very lovely, then used the cucumber slices like little nacho chips - which would also have been delicious, just not as super-healthy! lol! Cucumber - it's Nacho usual chip - haha! I know, I'm sorry! haha! But it is good! Deelish!

Now I think I'm gonna add everything to little cucumber slices! lol! And perfect for a KETO or Paleo Diet, in case you're trying that out... : )

Well, here's something funny - this is the biggest plate of the Real Baked Potato Chips that I could get - the second they were ready, they were gone - dat make'a me happy!

And they all cooked at different times - I flipped them a bunch of times, to make them really crisp - yum!

So, they're just very thinly sliced potatoes - this was three potatoes - left over from our Thanksgiving Dinner - we don't eat potatoes very often, so, usually they grow their own legs, then I plant them out on the balcony - you can just pop potatoes in any soil, you'll have beautiful vines in no time, plus, new potatoes! Yay!

I'm gonna look up all the Health Benefits of Potatoes, since, really, it's all the frying and additives that you would want to avoid, for potato chips, not the actual potato - with a li'l Olive Oil and Salt : )

Here you go! But, you already knew there were lots of Health Benefits of Potatoes, right? That's what makes them soo delicious!

"... food ranking system qualified potatoes as a very good source of vitamin B6 and a good source of potassium, copper, vitamin C, manganese, phosphorus, niacin, dietary fiber, and pantothenic acid. Potatoes also contain a variety of phytonutrients that have antioxidant activity."

My son heated up some already cooked and frozen Taco Meat, and he added a li'l Salsa to that - this is the amount of meat I had...

And how much for the boy - lol! And hardly any chips left, by the time I got over to his place - hahaha! That's a VERY good sign of something delicious! lol!

See how some of them cook faster than the others? Just take them off the cookie sheet as they're ready... and flip them before you pop them back in - yum!

I just lightly covered the 'chips' with a little Oil - I used Olive Oil, but you could use any oil, or no oil - up to you, baby!

See how they're translucent? I tried to let them sit for a second, make them even crispier, but they were sooo delicious, as soon as I took each batch out the oven, they were gone - lol! Yum!

I gave them a little bit of Salt on them when they came out the oven, too - soooo good! : )

Grapes are from God, right? lol! ; )

Should You Lose Weight Over the Holidays? #DietSchmiet (And other good ideas! lol!)

Hmmm, I say, no, give yourself a wee break with the whole weight loss thing. Still do your usual healthy things, but when it comes to Holiday Parties, or fun food at Christmas and all through the holidays, it's not really going to make any big difference in your actual weight if you just relax and enjoy yourself.. you've gotta really overdo it, every day, consistently, to gain weight in a short period, so, really, I think that's more of a media-hype thing than reality.

Holiday Shopping - soo many Amazing Deals, just for you! : )
Dis me - man, do me always gotta stand like that? Hahaha! Whatevs - most people come up with a way they like to pose for pictures, and that's what sticks - lol! And I'm at Butchart Gardens, just outside of Victoria, BC, Canada - so gorgeous, we love it out there : )

I've been reading a LOT of diet and weight loss books, lately - mostly because I went in for a blood test, which I studied really hard for (lol!), and even fasted for over 12 hours so I would do really well on the test, went in, took the blood test, got a really nice nurse (so thankful for great nurses!), but then I got a call on a Saturday from the doctor's office, to say I had to come in, the doctor wanted to talk to me. Wow, a call from the doctor's office on a Saturday? Scary stuff, right? So  immediately went out and got all these diet and weight loss books, making the big assumption it must be my blood sugar (since I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant with my son, Aidan, although, truth be told, I never really believed that, but I did follow the diabetic diet right through my pregnancy, then just stuck with it after that - you know, the usual, switch up pop - soda - for water - which was waay harder than you might think - at first, I really didn't like water, had to add lemon, lime, oranges, cucumber...all sorts of things to make the water have a flavor, right? But now I just like regular water, and adding the extras in is just for fun, no longer a necessity! lol!).

So, the take-away is that I thought, immediately, okay, I need to lose weight, if that's gonna help my blood sugar, lower my blood pressure, that whole thing... so I read a Jorge Cruise book, was very interesting, but I am not a big fan of anything that says you can 'lose 9 pounds in one week' - yikes, nooo, that's not healthy!  No do that to your pretty body! Be gentle and kind to your body, and your mind. I really like Jorge Cruise, though, he's a very good man, a nice guy, and super-handsome, and  I did come away with some good information, about 'free food' - food Jorge Cruise has listed as, basically, free of sugar calories - so, cheese, nuts and seeds, meat (this is what I remember - I have also included Vanilla Fudge, since I really, really love Vanilla Fudge, soooo, it prolly okay, right?? hahahaha! Whatevs!  It does make me all proud o' my food choices when I have cheese or seeds, which I love, anyway. It's definitely worth a read, but any 'diet' that is really involved will be virtually impossible to follow, at least for any significant amount of time, and you're not gonna want to do that during the holidays - that's a time for fun (also, Monday thru Sunday, 24/7, all year long! hahaha!)

Still me, but with some lovely Fall Colours! Same Dress, Same Pose, Same Place - lol! I am a creature of habit, I likes what I likes, apparently, all da time! hahaha!

Then I read this book by a couple o' guys from Santa Barbara, technically doctors, 'Why Women Need Fat', or something like that - will look it up for you, if you want to read it, too : )  At first, for the first half of the book, I really enjoyed it, a very good look at why women gain weight with each baby, need the weight for the next baby (I know, questionable...), and the whole focus of the book was around Susan, who I started calling, Poor Ol' Susan, since they constantly referred to 'Susan' as a middle-aged chubby girl, who was having a really difficult time losing the weight around the middle... and then they lost me in the middle of the book, when they took a turn toward the creepy, and discussed a 'study' where this 19 year old guy was proven to NOT be attracted to Middle-aged Susan - uuuh, Susan says, Good?? hahahahaha!  Yuck! But that makes me laugh! Pretty sure adult women are not trying to look great for all the 19 year old guys out there! hahahaha! Oh, man. Men. So funny!  They have an interesting perspective on women... but I did like their whole premise that women have a 'set point' where their weight seems to naturally fluctuate - I believe that, that seems reasonable and accurate...but you can change your 'set point', if you want to, and it doesn't matter what or who your motivation is for wanting to reshape your body, or get your body back to your 'old' shape (lol!), whatever motivates you is a good thing! lol! Get in there, do what you wanna do : )

Holiday Shopping - soo many amazing Deals, just for you! : )

Soo, really, the very best way to 'reshape' your body is with weights, either at the gym or at home. The truth is that most aerobic exercise is for your insides to be nice and healthy, and lifting weights, with lovely, fancy exercise machines, which I love, love, love, or hand weights at home, coupled with, say, a small stepper - should run you around $49.95 (ugh, I priced this stepper out a while ago, and was shocked to see the price had gone up to $129. - that's too much for a stepper, wait for it to go on sale - lol!), jus' so you know the price range, and hand weights should run you from $1 - $25, depending on the size of the hand weights - start small, work your way up, slowly, or just stick with the low weights - 1 - 5 pounds is plenty for women, when you're working on your arms...more for your legs and torso, so not too expensive, at all.

Interestingly enough, none of the 'diet' books I read included a good section on what exercises really work for women...oh, and as a quick aside, I cannot find a good gym in Victoria with decent equipment for women...what is that about? I did stop by Goodlife Fitness, but what jerks they are ('jerks' is a much nicer word than I would use in my car! hahaha!). If you go by a gym to see if it's right for you, don't let anyone push you around. If they're pushy when you first walk in, what a nightmare - they're there to sell you more product, will cost you a fortune, is very annoying, and I think they prey on women - not good. Very bad. So it's worth looking around for a gym where you see people smiling, friendly, not bitchy (ugh, that's annoying, ain't it?? lol!), and the staff are nice and normal. Those great gyms are out there, and they should have really good equipment for you to get your body into fantastic shape in no time.

And who doesn't want a little wine - we'll all age gracefully! lol! ; )
Save $120 on 12 World Class Wines for $69.99, Plus Free Corkscrew Set! So go enjoy yourself during the holidays, don't worry about any particular meal or treats. Your body adjusts to what your doing, no worries. Just think of your body as this amazing machine that can deal with practically everything, be moderate the rest of the time, and you'll be totally fine! Happy Holidays, Gorgeous!! lol!  Ailsa xox

Oh, almost forgot to tell you - I went in to see my lovely doctor, who is really nice and super-smart, and she said, nothing to worry about, I'm super-healthy! Yahoo! I'm still gonna drop 10 pounds - feel like that's a good idea, for me. I want to be really careful with my Blood Pressure, and losing 10 pounds can make a big difference in lowering your blood pressure and lowering your cholesterol, so I've been adding a 1/4 cup oatmeal onto my granola every morning - I love it, and I feel like all that oatmeal is working it's magic while I go about mah' day! hahaha! I put a lot o' stock in the health benefits of oatmeal! hahaha! Happy Holidays - go enjoy yourself! : )

This Tiny Cookie Has 16 Grams of Fat - but it's soo little! And only a little bit tasty! lol!

Look at this cookie. Tempting, right? Looks tasty. Looks sooo innocent. But is it? No. It's neither tasty nor innocent, but do I love them, accidentally? Yes. They are addictive little things, but I canny buy these, any more! hahahaha!  I gots to stop, and here's why - I bought these a while back - I had been eyeing them up in the bakery aisle at Safeway for a few weeks - it's the icing sugar, they remind me of these delicious cookies the mother of one of my friends used to make at Christmas Time, but these are NOT the same cookies. These little addictive cookies are called Pistachio Mamoul. You had me at Pistachio! hahahaha!  A cookie with pistachios in it, AND it's covered in icing sugar, AND it looks like it's shortbread??  I'm in.

So I'm casually, and slowly, Thank God, making my way through these lovely little virtually tasteless cookies (it's a very light flavour, and clearly I have developed a taste for! lol!), when, the other night, I thought, My God, it's entirely possible these little cookies have 5, count em', FIVE grams of fat in them... then I quickly dismissed my thought as ridiculous, went about my tiny task of making a nice cup of tea to go with my little Pistachio Mamoul cookie....

So jump to the NEXT night, I'm in the kitchen, still thinking, it's entirely possible these teensy tiny cookies could have a lot of fat in them, and the nutritional information is right on the bottom of the package, so it's not like it's not right there in front of me, I had simply chosen not to look at it, and spoil all my teensy tiny flavour fun! lol!  I wanted to live in the dark. Happy to live without knowledge that this little cookie might be bad for me. No. I didn't want to know. Like a very bad boyfriend, sometimes, you don't want to know the details, you just want to enjoy the boyfriend.... been there? Yeah, me, too! hahahahaha! Boyfriends and cookies, my very slight downfall! hahahaahaha! (Okay, I think that's jus' for me, really makes me laugh, while I'm sitting here, writing... passing the time before I eat another COOKIE!! hahaha!)

So there it is, the guilty culprit, the tiniest, almost most flavourless, cookie on the planet, and I want them very badly. See how tiny it is? I put it on my BUSINESS CARD, just so you could see the actual size.

That teensy tiny cookie has 16 grams of fat. SIXTEEN GRAMS of FAT. What the helll???  I just about bloody dropped. And then you can't take information back out of your head, much as I tried, because I have big plans to finish off the rest of these little cookies.... but I have GOT to never buy them, again ... said the girl with no resistance! hahahaha!

16 grams of fat!!  Omg, that's almost half of my normal 'goal' of 37 grams of fat per day - I am NOT against fat, don't get me wrong, here - I happen to LOVE fat! hahaha!  And I don't like fat-free products, because they just fool your body, which can't be fooled - it's just your mind that can be fooled, not your body... your body always knows what's goin' on....but your mind, well, as I know from personal experience, and a LOT of personal experience, a mind is a very easy thing to waste......no, that's a different campaign... a mind is very easy thing to fool...you can easily pull one over on your very own mind! hahahaah!  Think how many times a day you try to pull the wool over your own mind!  Hilarious! Is so funny! Tryin' to trick ourselves, all the time! Humans - we be crazy! hahahaha!

Okay, I'm gonna go have that cookie!  It's sitting right beside me, patiently waiting for me to enjoy it, a little... seriously, there's virtually no flavour! So funny, and I want it so badly.... oh, and it really is filled with pastachios, that's most likely where the fat comes from (says my mind, who is sooo easily fooled), so is maybe a healthy cookie?? hahahaahah!! Okay, hope you are enjoying your delusional day as much as I'm enjoying MY delusional day! lol!  Happy Cookie Eating! Ailsa xoxo!

And now for some Great Deals for you!! lol!

#CherryTomatoes to help you lose weight : ) #Diet #LoveYourselfSlim #Hydroponics #HangingBaskets

One of my favorite little 'secrets' to help me stay on track, have something crunchy and tasty - I love these little Cherry Tomatoes - and they're easy to grow in containers, too, if that appeals to you : ) Yum!  delicious! See my little trick of holding the Cherry tomatoes up against the picture of Yosemite for a better picture?? lol!

Oh, and I happen to loove a couple of slices of Havarti Cheese with a little handful of Cherry Tomatoes - yum! Quite often (okay, all the time - lol!) I don't want to stop what I'm doing (working on the computer, or making Trees, or whatever I'm up to, that day - hahahaha!) to make something fancy, sooo, that's one of my 'Go-To' snacks... yum!

And, lately, all I ever seem to want is an Apple, a nice crunchy Apple, and two of those Quaker Apple Fruit Crumble Chewy Granola Bars - it's like an instant Apple Crumble, with lots o' Apple! lol! Yum!

Cucumber Slices in Italian Salad Dressing, or whatever Salad Dressing you happen to like... : )

A nice big salad with Sunflower Seeds, French Dressing, and Grated Cheese - yum!  Now I want that for dinner!

I used to looove Corn Chips crushed into my salads... with Balsamic Dressing... soo good!  And always with the Sunflower Seeds : )

My favorite Apple Crumble little 'diet' meal (if you already know me,or are jus' gettin' to know me, you'll know I canny stand the word 'diet' - ugh!  I use it in the real meaning of the word, diet - what you eat on a regular basis... as long as 'diet' doesn't mean deprivation, because that's what it tends to mean, these days, and I'm all about not depriving yo'self - Treat Yo'self, is more of my thing! hahaha!  Find food you really enjoy, and you'll be fine : )

Easy Apple Crumble - half a bowl of apple sauce, cover lightly with oatmeal, sprinkle with cinnamon, microwave for 1 minute, Voila!  A nice, warm, tasty, treat!  I have the original Apple Crumble, which, frankly, is deeelicious, and I needed to do as a 'first step' to my weight loss 'journey', after my second child, my wonderful son, Aidan, had not only arrived, but had already turned 2! lol! That 'baby weight' - it's hard to lose!  Now he's 13, and I was able to lose over 35 pounds using the 'Apple Crumble Diet'.. I'll link that for you to the complete recipe and my special Scottish Diet page : )

Lose weight, and have fun doing it - if you feel yourself becoming frustrated or you're unhappy with it, switch it up a bit, get yourself back on track, and make it about choosing food you really enjoy, healthy choices... and have your treats, because if you don't, you'll just keep thinking about your fancy treat you want sooo much, now - better to have a wee treat, move on, right? lol!  Maybe make yourself a little deal that if you have your special treat, make a conscious effort to have an extra healthy thing, just to balance yourself out - and that's really what it's all about - a nice, healthy, balance in your life : )  You be all svelt and delicious!! lol!

I have a whole Scottish Diet that I developed and used to help me lose over 35 pounds... is in the same vein as the whole Oatmeal idea, since oatmeal is sooo useful in losing weight quickly... is da best food, ever!!

You'll get a real kick out of how a peat pellet works, too, since it doesn't look like a whole lot of soil in the pellet form, but you'll have fun pouring the water on the peat pellet, and watching it grow into 'real soil'!  Is fun!
The little Peat Pellet at the bottom of the pot : )

Ooh, I am growing my own Cherry Tomatoes - so exciting, can't WAIT! I used to grow Cherry Tomatoes with my wonderful and hilarious students in our School Garden (shout out to all School Districts who support a Garden in Every School!)...

One year, we had a particularly good crop of Cherry Tomatoes, and I was tryin' to FIND people to give them away - easily, we brought 40 pounds of Cherry Tomatoes out of our School Garden, that year - we used to go out into the School Garden, collect all the fruits and veggies, we would eat and cook with them as a class, then bring the extra up to the Front Office, so people could just help themselves - was so much fun! I loved my students soo much! I hope they're all doing soo well, now! I'm sure they all are! Shoutout to all my great Students! : ) You know I love you! You're the Best!! : )

Now I'm growing the Cherry Tomatoes (and Tumblin' Tom Tomatoes - looove the name - how hilarious is that?? The person naming the plants - laughin', laughin' - prolly all alone, and laughin' and laugh' - I love that image! haha!)
You don't need any space - I have this Hanging Basket out on the balcony, but you could have a hanging basket in your house, or in any classroom - I really, really think it's fantastic for children to watch plants grow, and then harvest the fruits and veggies - they're far more likely to grow up and eat more fresh produce, so, healthier kids, healthier adults, healthier society... I think you can see where I'm goin' with THAT... lol!

Yay! Look at all that beautiful New Growth! I'm so excited! I just loove watching plants grow - what a miracle! Thanks, Universe! Thanks, God! Good Work! Nice Job! A+++++! lol! : )

I bought the little Tomato Plant for $2.00, at our local Grocery Store, but you can pick up the hanging baskets at the Dollar sore, now - did you know that? Am I the last to find out? haha! But I was thrilled, because the hanging baskets with the fancy liner used to be very expensive, so, I'm all for better pricing, so everyone can have one, right? Right! Sure! Grow a Garden, Baby! : )

Hydroponics: Now you can grow Fresh Vegetables and Fruit, year-round - lasts for years, no more waiting for the prices to be 'normal' or 'reasonable' at the Grocery Stores, for your fave Vine fruits and veggies : )

10% OFF ENTIRE GROWERSHOUSE SITE! Wouldn't it be soo great to have Fresh Tomatoes, Fresh Cherry Tomatoes (my personal favourite! Yum!), Fresh Strawberries... Really, all your favourite Fruits and Veggies that grown on vines or in pots...

I first found out about Hydroponics in University (nooo, it's not what you might be thinking - hahahaha!  It really WAS for the Tomatoes - hahaha!).

Anyway, if you're interested in Hydroponics, want to save money on your fresh fruits and veggies (they're a craazy price in Canada), and you want to Grow Your Own, Hydroponics might be something to look into...really Extend Your Growing Season : )

Gym Tips - How To Find a Good Gym : )

Haha! This pic make'a me laughs! lol!

But, don't worry about weight lifting making you look like Arnold - a lot of women are afraid they might bulk up, when weightlifting, especially with machines, will just tone you do - or, tone up up? haha! Whatevs... you'll look long and lean, is fantastic for stretching your muscles, and that's great for your body - and great for your mind, too! Throw in some balancing exercises, and you'll keep your mind extra-sharp - yahoo! Good Balance! : )

I rarely use the equipment the way you're 'supposed to' - whatever, that's not functional for me, and it depends on the machine - for a Universal Machine, I just sit on the seat backwards (grab the bar about a foot on either side, then lower yourself to a seated position), do a bunch of reps at a low weight, switch around, sit forward on the chair, but I bring the bar behind my head...

Always, I would say to start with the lowest amount of weight, no matter what the person in the gym says - forget what they tell you - I've seen waay too many 'trainers' who were soo full of themselves, and not familiar enough with women's bodies, that they give terrible advice...

But always start with the lowest weight - if it's crazy-easy, move up 10 pounds, or one weight plate... move the pin, one down, see how that feels. If you can easily do 10 reps, that's fine, maybe use that amount of weight as a warm up and cool down, or for a light stretch...

Then, gradually, increase the weight, but you don't need to go too high.. I typically start with 20 pounds, use that for a nice stretch and warm up, so, 50 reps, usually, then flip around and do 30 reps...

I get up from the machine and do a lot of arm stretches - you know, the arms above your head, that sort of thing - whatever you like, but I do stretch a lot, between reps...

Her arms are waaay too far apart.. usually the bend in the bar is closer in to the center, and that's where you want your hands to be... and you can play around with your hands forward and backward, on the bar - I like, forward, that's better for me, but I do some reps where my fingernails would be facing me... just so you can quickly see what I mean by that hand placement - think, knuckles - forward, nails, backward.. hope that's clear enough! : )

I usually do sets of 20 or 25 reps, get up and stretch between each set of reps - a set of reps is just how many of each weight lifting thing I'm doing... and I love to have good music on while I'm working out - makes the time fly by, and is fun... I'll do sets of 25, 2 or 3 sets, if I feel like it - the key is to follow along with what your body - and mind - wants, follow your intuition on all of that, including how you feel with each exercise, and only do the ones you like...

If any idiot tells you, at the gym, 'no pain, no gain', immediately ignore that person, and follow your gut - exercise is fun, stretches are great, lifting is fun - you'll get in great shape, should never, ever, be painful.... you can feel it, without it being painful - that's an old piece of crap thinking from the 80's, and we want to leave that stooopido thinking back in the 80's... we're lookin' at your very happy future, now : ) (For men, it's a little different, but that's for mah' ladies! lol!)

Then I'll either go to other machines for legs, or continue on this arm machine, because I love it so much, and I'm busy working on my arms and back (and tummy and legs - did I miss anything? hahaha!) ... and do a little circuit...

And it's not true that you constantly have to 'surprise' your muscles, do something different every time you go to the gym - one, your muscles ain't all that smart - kidding - your muscles are super-smart! But, your muscles will love any movement, at all - just think of how happy your dog is to go for a walk - any walk... your muscles feel the same way, just happy to get to do stuff! lol!

I hope all the women are using the Pull Down Bar - it really is a remarkable exercise - it'll tone your arms, back, torso, tummy (with the heavier weights, pretend you're lifting from your tummy, focus in on your ab muscles, you'll get those nice little muscle lines - yay!)... it's like giving yourself a Body Lift - and frankly, i think weightlifting gives you a face lift, too, since, your face muscles are also working...

And when you lose weight, your face gets younger and younger - is amazing! I think the gym is the real fountain of youth, for sure! lol!

And then the best part - well, one of the best parts - you can really eat pretty normally, because your muscles will take care of whatever you've eaten - yahoo! Yippee!

 Maah'hahaha!

And, you should not have the fight of your life, trying to get out of a stooopid Gym Membership - if Gyms want more people, they need to be normal, not insanely pushy - "How much is your HEALTH worth - Ugh, I HATE that stooopid line - lol! Idiots!

What a moronic thing to say - like you have to suspend your brain to join a damn gym - uh, nope. Offer a good service for a good price, no stoopid contracts. Not exactly Rocket Science.. lol! ; )

Did I tell you about the Gym Guy who actually said, to justify stooopid Gym Membership Fees, How much would you pay for the Perfect Dress? You'd pay ANYTHING" Are you freaking kidding me with that? Sexist, beyond moronic, offensive on every possible level...

I want to see Gyms, especially if they are government run, or government sponsored, run like the library - would be amazing if Gyms were free, but a small monthly fee, $10/month, $100/year, make Gyms affordable for everyone, and no more moronic Gym Memberships, where you are stuck for life - your Gym Membership should not be a Life Sentence - that's why people don't go to the gym, they don't want to be harassed, screwed over, taken advantage of - happens more often than not... for a place that's claims to Improve Yourself, maybe take a look at how they can Improve THEMselves, make the Gym a Much Better Place - better for everyone! : )

****

Hmmm, I thought this article I wrote a while back was about HOW to choose a good gym, which I am in the process of doing, right now... we're out in Victoria, BC, Canada, having been booted out of the States - booo!!  Still sad about that - loved living in LA! Anyway, I have been searching for a good gym, and by 'good gym', I mean a gym with good equipment, not old-assss equipment, and they must have the inner and outer thigh machines.  Puh-leeease, what is it about a gym that doesn't acknowledge the needs of it's female members?? Ugh.  Hate that.

Any decent gym will have at the very least, this good gym equipment. I hate, hate, hate that crap new equipment, designed for aesthetics and not fitness - what a load o' garbage that is, and it can really hurt you, so, be careful with that, and far too often the gym owners don't work out, themselves,so they have no clue what equipment really works - so, if you go to the gym, check out the owner - and the staff - if they don't even work out, whatevs, that's the sign they don't know what they're talking about, and that's super-annoying. You'll know right away, what kind of person it is, and how deeply annoying they are - and then don't go there - if you hate the people you have to see at the gym every day, you're less likely to go -

Find a Gym you love, and where you feel happy and very welcomed - the gym should be your happy place, a place where you can relax, have some good little chats, get a great workout - you'd think that would be a given, right, but it's not, it's fantastic when you find a great gym with great people - then you'll be Fit For Life! lol! : )

And I want a gym that is friendly, not obnoxious (I know you know the type - they're soo focused on how fancy they are, they're not really doing anything with fitness, at all, except be ultra-annoying... and out here, for some bizarre reason, they have lists and lists of 'gym etiquette' (!!) Whaat??  Seriously?? You have to spell it out?  And they have dress codes - wtf??  Ugh.  That's nauseating.

When did this happen to good gyms? And no swearing at the gym??  You've gotta be effen kidding me with that one - idiots.  If you're lifting some serious amount of weight, it is entirely possible you might swear, or, let's say you are having an adult conversation, and it's fun to swear in the middle of it, for fun... is this not allowed, either??  What are they, the Gym Police?  Or just annoying wussies? And why are they in charge of the gyms??  Gaaaah! Dat not good!  I just want a normal gym, nice and clean, good, solid gym equipment, normal people, bright with good music, and a reasonable rate... that's not asking too much, is it??  All my favorite gyms have had all those features, so surely they exist out here, too?? I hope so!

Well, hopefully you'll find a great gym where you feel welcome every time you go, get a great work out in every time you're there, and make some nice new friends, too - see, that's entirely reasonable, right?? lol!

Ok!! lol! I love a handsome Gym Trainer! hahaha! Motivation to go to the gym, right there! hahaha!

Okay, on with the old article!

Oh, I love a Great Gym! I've just joined a new Gym (they've been around for a long time, but they have a really nice new facility in Okotoks, Alberta), and I'm back on 'The Gym Track'! Yahoo! I really missed going to the Gym, so it's great to get back into that lifestyle. Greig's Gym in Okotoks, Alberta - 403-938-3067 (Hope that's still the right number - maybe look that up, first? : ). Great rates, by the way!

The most important thing for me when I'm looking for a gym is to find a gym that is bright and cheery, with great music and great equipment. Actually, the Great Equipment is the most important thing, but there was one gym I popped into where they play Country and Western Music when people are working out, and I just can't go there, so-to-speak. I need up-beat, good music to have a great work-out. (And at Greig's Gym, they let me bring my own music, which is great -- I've been bringing The Black Eyed Peas, since they appeal to men and women -- I put on a Gwen Stefani CD, which I love and work out to at home, but I hadn't realized how 'girly' it is until I put that on one day, and didn't know there was still a guy at the gym. I think he might not have been so thrilled with the 'girly music', so since then, I've only put on 'in-between music' that's good for everybody. (Oh, and I guess I should clarify the Country Music thing -- it's huuuge out here in Alberta, as it is in many places, and I'm sure there are some up-beat tunes in there, I just don't want to work out to it... I hear it's good to drink beer by, though, so maybe I'll try that -- right after a work-out! ha,ha,ha!)

Quick note from Ailsa: I'm living in Los Angeles, California, now, on my own with the kids, and we have a gym right in our Complex. Fantastic to have ready-access to a gym, and it's really well equipped, so you know I'm lovin' that!

So here's the deal with going to a 'Real Gym' as opposed, or in addition to, working out at home. I enjoyed working out at home for a really long time, and it was the only practical thing to do while Aidan, who is now 6, was a wee boy. And I have great Work Out Equipment at home, too, and a nice place to use it (although, Dwight has recently moved most of my equipment out of the Living Room, downstairs, into the Furnace Room and my Sewing/Gift Wrapping Room, which I did not appreciate, so all the more reason for me to go out to a gym...). Anyway, I find when I get ready to go out to the gym, you start to psych yourself up for the Workout, and then when you get there, it's not like you can throw in a load of laundry, turn on the TV and make the dinner, which makes it tricky to get in a good work out! ha,ha! And there you are, with real, live Adults! That's one of my favorite parts -- interaction with adults. It's been a long time for me, having been home with Aidan for so very long.

I love the Nautilus Weight Lifting Machines, because they are like a relatively gentle way of weight-lifting. I'm not sure I would be bothered much with pilates, since it seems the same to me, except it would take forever to get into the shape you're after, and I don't have that kind of time. I like immediate results, and a lot of bang for my buck, if you will... I know that after 6 weeks, I'll see a significant change in my body, which I greatly look forward to! :) The important thing is to get into a nice little routine of stretching, lifting, using a variety of machines and Free Weights, stretching, Eating Chocolate. Oh, oh. Wait a minute. The 'Eating Chocolate' comes first, I think, but really, that's a personal choice...! And there should probably be a shower in there, too, especially if you are going to have continued human contact after your work out! ha,ha!

Quick Note about Aerobics: I used to teach Aerobics, and have my Trainer's Certificate in Aerobic Exercise, but I prefer to use Weights when I really want to Shape my body. Here's the thing about Aerobics, and a lot of folks don't want women to know this -- it's a lot of fun, and great if you want to enjoy yourself and work out your heart, but it doesn't do very much in terms of helping you to lose weight or get into shape. It would take years and years of Aerobics to do what Weight Lifting can do in 6 months to a year. No kidding. And it's just as good for your heart. (The exception here is when you add in Weights to the Aerobic Work out, or a Stepper...)

The key to Weight Lifting, for Women in particular, is to lift the smallest amount of weight available at the machines until you're comfortable with that weight, then gradually increase the weight. Do slow reps, rather than fast reps. I usually do 15 reps, 3 times each, going from machine to machine, with a stretch in between each set of reps. I don't like to see women use too much weight, or use a machine they don't like, because I don't believe that works out well for most women. And I don't believe in the 'no pain, no gain' thing, either. You should enjoy using your muscles, which doesn't mean hurting yourself. It just means you can really feel the muscles as you work them out, and that's a good thing.

There's nothing wrong with taking a wee break in the middle of a set, either, if you need to -- it's all about doing what's right for you. One thing I want to watch out for this time around at the Gym is to not go overboard with the weight. The last time I was able to really devote a lot of time to Weight Training, I was lifting massive amounts of weight, but that was because I had a lot of 'anger issues' because of an insane legal matter I had to deal with, but now I'm just going to enjoy myself and get nice and toned. I do love to challenge myself, though, so I'll have to remember to find a nice balance where I try not to go too far over 100 pounds... of weights -- God Knows I'm waaaaaay over 100 pounds! But that's a-changin'!ha,ha,ha!

Oh, and don't let the Scales fool you when you go to the gym. I really can't stand the Weight Scales, since they rarely say anything good to me, these days, but also because Muscle weighs more than Fat, so it's better to use a measuring tape to check your progress. Or just check yourself out in a mirror! You can change your shape without necessarily changing your actual weight, but that can really be upsetting if you've been working your behind off (literally!), and the stooopid scales won't reflect all your hard work...

One More Thing: Muscle eats fat, so-to-speak, so you'll find that when you are working out with Weights, you'll naturally want to eat well, and the muscle continues to eat away at the fat that may be present, while you're just going about your everyday activities, so that's gotta be good, right? Make your muscles work for you, just like your money!

Hey, I just heard a new Statistic that Exercising Regularly can help to reduce your risk for Breast Cancer by up to 50%. And, I firmly believe that you can control Diabetes (or, better yet, prevent it completely...) by regular, real exercise. Remember, even Light Weights are better than No Weights. Oooh, just thought of a catchy, though slightly hokey, new Slogan --

Lift Weights to Lose Weight
More Weight = Less Weight. Less Waiting with More Weights...
Okay, that's it for me -- gotta get to the Gym!!

More ideas for fast weight loss : )

Wow, that's a great idea!  Text books are soo expensive!

I am soo done with my cable bill - $180/month???  Whatdahell?, as James on BB would say - lol!  That's too high - so unreasonable... I love these new companies that are giving us real options, so you can still watch all your favorite TV shows, and easily save sooo much money... is the best!

No Cable. No Dish. Just KlowdTV.HD Stream. No Contract. Cancel Anytime.Stream on you desktop, mobile, tablet or TV.HD Stream. No Contract. Cancel Anytime.

Lol - hey, maybe you're so fed up trying to find a good gym, with no contract, no moronic annual fees, 'Gym Maintenance Fees', they're called, now - what a joke - nope, that's part of your membership fee... and a nice, clean, safe work out area, with great equipment, and the right equipment, chosen for it's functionality, and not for the aesthetics - the people who are gonna GO to the gym, don't care what color it is, for God's Sake, and they DON'T want fru-fru gym equipment, that doesn't do a damn thing for anyone's body - what a massive waste of time, money and energy (I'm talkin' to you, stooopid Steve Nash Gym, in Victoria, BC - bastards. You should have paid me back that bogus 'annual fee', that came out of my account right before your new gym open, you new and useless gym - bleah!  Hate them. What total jerks.).

Anyway, so, that just makes me, and maybe a lot of other people, want to watch a little TV, to de-stress about their stooopid gym options - lol!

Your gym shouldn't be the most stressful part of your life.

And getting out of a Gym Membership should not be more difficult than getting a Divorce - lol!

It should be neat and clean - you should get back what they legitimately owe you, just a signature from both sides to make sure no more payments go through, done.  There's no need for all the name calling and shaming - what da hell??  That's not good business practice.  How do so many gyms get away with this? Isn't this regulated, somewhere? A  "don't screw your clients"rule? If not, then there should be - too many people are far too disgusted with their gyms... let's make the gym a happy place, again, then way more people will happily go back - maybe give that a try, huh, gyms?

You gym should be a fun place to go, where you can get a really good workout, no hassles, some friendly faces, some good conversation between sets... for a reasonable cost, no one screwing you over.... right?  Right. Take note, Gyms of the world - lol!
